Hi there,

How much will cost a J-24 rudder that comply with the class rules? Where are you located at?

Many thanks

Kind regards

Just wanted to thank you very much for the outstanding offshore rudder you built for my 1979 J/30. The rudder performed flawlessly, after over 2100 NM racing from SF to Hawaii in Pacific Cup 2010. We finished 2nd in Div. A just under 14 days and missed 1st place by approximately 45 minutes. We were in near constant surf condition the last 2/3 of the race with a top speed of 16.1 knots and a best 24 hour run of 198 NM. The weather included squalls and trade winds with TWS of 12- 29 knots at times planning at 14- 16 knots.
The greatest sailing I have ever experienced, thanks again for being a part of "Team Friction Loss".

I have only good things to say about the rudder...we only cavitated once at the nationals for a split second when the wind piped up unexpectedly and we had raised the board up 5 inches to minimize drag in light air. The other foils seemed to be having more of a struggle. Our blade will also fit in your existing cassette allowing you to skip that cost if you want.

The foils look great and it is hard that I have to wait at least 8 weeks until I can try them, since we have the strongest winter for the last 30 years!

Thanks Phil for you great work!

Here is are some pics of the sprit---we do not have all the bits installed but we’re almost there.

Hello. Your site is cool. Do you know where I could get a set of plans to fabricate a centerboard for a 1979 C&C 36? I've done some infusion and vacuum bagging and have all the equipment and material. Thanks, Richard

Dave and Phil

Finished our season on the Peterson 37 (featured on your web page) and the difference in performance was amazing....very responsive steering, almost finger touch control in most conditions and only one wipe out this year.

Usually we can count on several good wipe outs a year. With this years heavy winds, big waves, it was quite remarkable that we did not have more than one.

I'd say that we can chock the one wipeout we had this year to "operator error"....25 knots true, full main, full kite, new crew.....not surprising...

Good work guys and I have strongly recommended your services around the club....except my competition of course...

Your daggerboard performed very well on our record breaking run from Maui to Oahu this last Labor Day race on my F-33. After our resent haul out, we noticed the board was in excellent condition.

Aloha,

Hi
The quetzel almost ready, the mast (Proctor D) will be in place this weekend.Expect to be sailing in 2 weeks. The boat can sail with either a 29er gennacker or a 505 spinnacker. To keep the cost down I am using my old 505 main sail. Will send some pictures when the boat is sailing.
Best regards

Hi Phil-

The most important thing about the testing is, there were no surprises. The boat handles well with either rudder upwind, although we could tell a difference with the new one when executing 'bat turns' while sheeted in hard upwind. ....

On to the rest of the testing. When we set the asymmetrical, we loaded up the rig, and sailed high, with high heel, and were able to replicate the stall of the standard aluminum rudder...there was a roostertail out the back of the boat on the starboard transom while attempting to bear off on port jibe. We were not able to stall the new rudder while doing the same thing on starboard, that part of the test was very dramatic.

Received the strut yesterday afternoon. Looks great. Everything arrived fine with no damage.

I will be getting with you in a week or two to get started on the cassette/rudder assy. Great job to you both and your crew!!!

Phil & Dave,

I thought you might be interested in an update on the rudders you built for Mick C. and I. We both did very well at Whidbey Island Race Week this year, and that was enough to prompt a guy to appeal our PHRF ratings because of our rudders. Fortunately, the handicappers have not agreed with him. At any rate, I have been very happy with the rudder and I think a lot of people noticed it this year with Mick and I rafted on the main dock at Race Week.

Nonsuch 30 rudder: The rudder was amazing. It fit like a glove, no problems whatsoever and it is a beautiful piece of workmanship. You guys were great. I appreciate everything you you did. I was saying that the new rudder is so much nicer than the old rudder.

Cheers,
Ty

Earlier this year, I discovered that my J/30 rudder was thicker and heavier than the class specification.

This past Spring, I installed a new rudder made by Competition Composites and am very happy with the difference that it has made. The key difference is that the new foil stays responsive in all wind conditions. Specifically, in higher winds, there is no sense that the rudder is becoming inefficient and heavy. The Class Spec won't allow a balanced rudder, so you can't achieve the super-light touch available on some tillers, but having one that is correctly designed makes a BIG difference.

The guys that own CCI sail at my Club and I can attest that they understand racing. They were quick and responsive. And the product was ready when promised. And fit right in to the hole that the old one left behind.

The new rudder is substantially better. Worth, in my opinion, the investment. You'd spend as much or more on a new sail and, for the reasons above, I would argue you will get more of a return from your investment on the race course out of the rudder.

Thanks again Rob.

I really appreciate your responsiveness on this matter - it just confirms my decision to have you do the work on the rudder in the first place. The work and the attention to ensuring a solid solution (and a delighted customer) is much appreciated - as is all of your work on this yesterday. The outcome for me is outstanding and I will happily recommend your work to any other potential customers.

Phil,
Just thought would let you know I gave Heather (my wife) the rudder for her birthday on March 20th and it was a huge success. She is extremely pleased and can hardly wait to get it assembled and on the boat. She rewarded me with a big kiss.

Hi Guys

Re: Windtunnel Fan Blades.

I got the blades today and they look good. I have given them to our client at the institute for aerospace research. They are going to do an ultrasonic scan on them to check for voids and see how consistent the density is throughout the blade. The exterior of the blade is also going to be scanned to see how close it came to the computer model. I weighed the blades today and got 205 grams for the first one and 203.6 for the second, so congrats on getting within 1% on both blades.

Hello Phil,

We have completed the structural test of the spars you manufactured for us (Carleton UAV Team). We have found that the spars meet our strength requirements, and therefor they are satisfactory for use on our prototype aircraft.

Anyhow, thank you very much for your work and understandinng in this manner. All of your help has been very much appreciated.

If we have another rudder project I will defiantly get in touch, I think your pricing, quality, and service are right on the mark. J-133 Emergency Rudder.

The rudder you built for me is performing perfectly and the past National Champ won last year with one of your rudders. Rhodes 19 fleet.

Phil and Dave: I received my new tiller today and it looks and feels fantastic. I am very pleased with it. I will get it on the boat in April.

Thanks

Hello Phil;

Sorry I'm so late getting back to you - - however, the twelve centerboards and rudders you provided us with last year (2008) worked out excellent for our Albacores'this past season. The weight and finish were great and it was a pleasure to do business with you. If anyone is sitting on the dock, wondering about the quality and workmanship etc. - - then place your order now !! You will not be dissappointed.

Thanks again Phil for all your help.

All the best;

The new rudder was probably the best thing we did to the boat, above and beyond everything else we did. Using it we took 3rd at the Whidbey Island Race week, Yacht of the Year in our local club, 3rd in the Northern Century Double-handed race, etc.

I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the new rudder. It fit perfectly and the new design works much better than the old one (holds course better, turns better and goes faster). Also, the new rudder is a lot lighter compared with the waterlogged one that came out (110 lbs!). Too bad there aren't all that many other Hullmaster 27s out there. Anyway, thank you again for your help and for standing behind your product.
